Born 75 miles north of Nashville, Tn. In the small town of Crofton, Ky. Joey is no stranger to both country and Southern gospel music. He started playing professionally at the age of 16. “ My mother received a piano from my dad when I was 4 years old as a gift and I began trying to play it as often as I could. I tried to take lessons but the teacher told mom it was useless because I would learn the song just by hearing it and found I could play it without trying to read notes.
I attended my first gospel concert at the age of 10 with the Happy Goodmans, the Oak Ridge Boys, and the Inspirations. I made a vow I was going to play piano like Howard Goodman. God has allowed me to play and sing with several good quartets and I also spent a little over 9 years as minister of music and pianist for a church in Mississippi.
After a bad round of cancer in 2011, God in His infinite grace allowed me to survive and as long as I’m able, I will serve Him with what talent He has given me. Some of my favorite groups are the Goodmans, the Cathedrals, the Hoppers, and the Kingdom Heirs.”
